Happy Weekend, Indeed

Happy Weekend, Indeed

Hi guys, and happy weekend!

I’ve survived two weeks of my first “real world” job, and so far, so good!

I’m loving my coworkers and the work seems right up my alley. It’ll be a while before I’m up to speed, but I’m learning so much and enjoying the process and getting to know my colleagues!

Anyway, I know I haven’t been on here as much as I wanted to this summer – between finding an apartment, moving in, starting work, and trying to relax and see friends and fam, the chance to blog has slipped away. Ugh!

I thought I would get on here today to say hello and share a few pictures from the past couple weeks. You can also find these pics on my Instagram (@LaurRuns). Follow along for daily photos!

My morning workout + fave post-workout snack!

Loving the new Panera peach blueberry power smoothie with almond milk!

Lunch outside with my mom at one of my favorite casual restaurants in my hometown (before I moved to Boston). Love spending time with her (and the good food doesn’t hurt ;)). This was a spinach wrap with turkey, spicy honey mustard, lettuce, tomato, walnuts, and dried cranberries, plus a side salad. Yum!

One of my work day outfits from last week. I’m fortunate that we have a casual dress code and can wear whatever we want! This means I can still wear all my old college class clothes (minus the workout clothes I usually wore…) or business casual – whatever I’m in the mood for. So nice!

The CEO of our company is amazing and had us all over for food and drinks at her gorgeous home on Tuesday evening. I enjoyed spending time with my coworkers, sipping rosé, and snacking on watermelon (x5), sliders, and mini wraps. Can’t wait for more of these nights in the future!

The scene of my peaceful, quiet Saturday morning – exactly what I needed after super early mornings and busy work days. Waking up naturally (at 8:45), sipping coffee, listening to podcasts, reading magazines, and then getting an awesome 5 miles in (while exploring my new neighborhood) was the perfect start to my weekend.

I hope you guys are enjoying your summer, and that I get to talk to you all again soon!

Sweater Weather? (OOTD – Work Day 4)

Today was my 4th day at J.Crew! That means I’m coming at ya with another OOTD!

I think I’m going to see The Fault in Our Stars tonight (!!!!) so I have to make this pretty brief. Here is a short update vlog (are these getting old? Seriously, let me know!) and all the deets on today’s outfit!

I was planning on wearing this white J.Crew blazer (featured here), but it was super hot out and I’ve worn a blazer the last couple times I worked, so I decided to look through my sweaters to see what I could wear over my dress.

Since it’s not exactly sweater weather (great song, though!), most of my sweaters were way too heavy for this hot summer day. I finally decided on this white J.Crew cardigan.

Under the cardigan I wore this Old Navy dress in Absolute Blue (featured here).

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to belt it or not, but when I put the cardigan on, I thought the waist could use a little definition. Plus, once I put on these American Eagle sandals, it all came together quite nicely!

*My hair looks a little greasy ^, but actually it looked pretty shiny and frizz-free despite the fact that I let it air-dry. My secret weapon was coconut oil! I’ve read so much about it lately and actually purchased some a few years ago to use in my hair but completely forgot about it until yesterday! So far, so good!

I digress…

Apparently I’m really digging the statement necklaces lately! This one is also from J.Crew (I got it last July so it’s no longer available, but it’s somewhat similar to this one).

Boom, there is it, another OOTD.

Hope you had a fab weekend and are ready for the week ahead!

In case you missed them, here are my other workday OOTDs –

OOTD – Jewel Tones in the Summer? (Work Day 3)

Happy Friday!

I hope you all had a fabulous week and are ready for a great weekend!

I worked this morning, so as always, here is my OOTD (and a quick update vlog!)

Frizzy bun!

photo 2

Couldn’t decide if I should wear the blazer or not…

photo 3photo 2

Whatcha lookin’ at, weirdo?

photo 4

Now what are you looking at?

photo 1

That’s more like it. No makeup, workout clothes, frizzy natural hair, and glasses. Aka me ~80% of the time!

photo 3

Excuse the copious amount of selfies today, I couldn’t decide what to post on Instagram, so I had to do an awkward little photo-shoot. I just couldn’t resist making fun of myself when I looked back at all the pictures I didn’t use. I’m not very good at the ‘take serious selfies’ fashion blogger thing, but I’m trying haha!

Well there it is, folks! Another OOTD in the books.

Be sure to follow me on Instagram for more fashion, food, and fun photos!!

Also, be sure to have an amazing weekend 🙂

And in case you missed it, this week I…

OOTD – Dress Up a Sundress (Work Day 2)

Happy Monday! How was your weekend?

Mine was great! Lots of fun with friends and fam, a couple awesome workouts, good food (hopefully a WIAW post soon!), and bright, sunshiny days 🙂

I worked on Sunday (I talk about it in the mini vlog below), and as I said I would try to do – here is an “OOTD” for my second day of work!

The reason I point to my glasses and shake my head in the video is because I filmed that part (and took the following pics) the night before when I planned the outfit (and had no make up and my glasses on). The part when I’m not wearing glasses is right before I left on Sunday, and obviously the car part is after work.

Oh, and the little clip at the very end is from a sunny Sunday walk through a farm in my town! So beautiful, right?

Anyway, I’ve already shown most of the parts of this outfit in this post, but here are the links you can check out if you’re interested!

  • Navy Old Navy blazer.
  • White Old Navy sundress (Not available online, but somewhat similar to this maxi dress version).
  • Nordstrom elastic belt sort of similar to this one (I think I got mine 2 years ago, so I couldn’t find a link to the exact one – mine is thinner and all brown, but this is the closest I could find).
  • St. Christopher necklace (My mom ordered mine online a few years ago).
  • Gap wedges. I ended up wearing flat American Eagle sandals. (Again, I got mine ~2 years ago, so I can’t find the exact link).

Sarcastic snapchats (I didn’t actually mind working yesterday, just felt like being sassy – shocker)!

Home from work selfie! My summer freckles are coming in…

photo 5

Still working on the maxi skirt fashion post, and I’m thinking I will do another WIAW this week if I have enough foodie pics! And an OOTD for the next time I work, as well 🙂

That’s it for today, but I will talk to ya soon!

New and Exciting

Hey hey! I’m so excited to finally have a few free minutes to check in with you all.

My days have been crazy between moving in Tuesday and full days of Health Coach training Wednesday, Thursday, and today.

But, training is finally over and…

I’m officially a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH!!

Screen Shot 2013-08-30 at 5.04.09 PM

Woohoooooo!

Now that the long days of training are behind me, I can give presentations to my peers about nutrition, and do iHP’s (aka individual health plans aka one-on-one meetings with students).

Talk about new and exciting! 🙂

Speaking of exciting, I’ve now got a three day weekend to relax, hang out with my roommates and friends, go to the first football game, head into the city, and enjoy my last few days of freedom before classes begin on Tuesday (womp womp…).

~~~~~~~~~~
Since I was so busy I wasn’t able to take many (or really any) pics, but I do have a few of the lunches we ate during training.
Portobello mushroom and veggie sammy with fruit and more veggies. Tasted good but I was starving about 20 minutes later…so I dove into the bag of almonds and walnuts I had packed.
photo 1
Margarita pizza on whole grain crust with sun dried tomato and cranberry salad. Actually really good. I love me some sun dried tomatoes.
photo 2
Last night I was starved after a sweaty workout in the gym (which was well needed after sitting for a full 8 hours), and my friends and I didn’t want to wait in line for hot food, so we grabbed some sandwiches and soup. Boy did that turkey and cheese sammy and vegetarian bean chili hit the spot.
photo 3
An hour or so after dinner we grabbed a bit of froyo which was amazing after not having any sweets since I left home… (the dining halls had limited menus the first few days since most people hadn’t moved in yet, and I made sure all the meals and snacks that I ate would fill me up and offer me the key nutrients I needed to keep me running through the long days I had. But oh my gosh did I miss my daily treat(s) ;)).
Melted deliciousness.
Melted deliciousness.
~~~~~~~~~~

One thing that got me through the hectic days was taking 45 minutes to workout when I got back from training. As tired as I was mentally, my body just wanted to move! So I went on a 6 mile run one day, hit the gym for a spinning workout followed by some plank/core work, and then a little over 6 mile run today. Man did it feel good to sweat it out!

~~~~~~~~~~
I gotta run to dinner soon but I did want to quickly mention something about my new internship! I’m actually not working as an intern for GalTime.com right now just because I needed some time to get adjusted to school and health coaching, and wanted to try some other things. It was an awesome opportunity and I learned SO much.
A little over a week ago I was hired as an intern for Amanda Russell, the fabulous fitness guru and creator of FitStrongandSexy.com.
I have the honor to work with Amanda, and I am absolutely loving it. It’s definitely a lot of work to take on, especially right now with a whole new school year about to begin and becoming a health coach, but it was an opportunity that I just could not pass up.
Some of my duties include working on the weekly newsletter, working on blogs, adding recipes, and other back-end and social media work.
I’m super excited (do I say that too much…?) because I’m finding that the things I learned in my old internship, all my new health coach knowledge, my own blogging, and my new internship are overlapping and teaching me more that I ever thought possible.
If you couldn’t tell I’m super passionate about all things health/fitness/food/fashion related, and writing is one of my absolute favorite things to do.
All the work I did this summer and will continue to do (on top of all my work for my classes…yikes!) brings me so much joy. I know it sounds cheesy and sappy, but it’s true!
Let’s hope I can enjoy alllll my school work as much as I enjoy all of this. (Or maybe even just half as much…….?). 😉
~~~~~~~~~~

Alright, time to head out. Not sure when I’ll be able to get on here next but in the mean time, enjoy your long weekend!!

~~~~~~~~~~
Questions of the day:
  • What’s something ‘work related’ that brings you joy?
  • Do you have any fun plans for the long weekend?!
I’d love to hear from ya!
PS – A big thank you to all of you who commented on my posts and started following me on WordPress and Bloglovin‘ (as well as Pinterest and Twitter)! It means so much to me.
You guys rock. 🙂
